Building Our Business

While on a Skype call two weeks ago with a fellow small business owner, I had a major “aha” moment. It’s like a lightbulb went off in my head and I realized something that I have been doing wrong for a while. Some of you may know that I have a full time day job. I am a 2nd grade teacher at a wonderful school to a fantastic group of little ones. And while there are some people that will tell you that if you have a day job you can’t live your dream, I’m here to tell you that is NOT true! Sure, it may be easier to run a business without a full time day job, but it’s definitely not impossible. Some businesses choose to hire employees to manage the day-to-day operations, which can make a significant difference in workload and efficiency. Euworkers.fr can help businesses find skilled workers, providing a flexible solution for companies in need of talent.

Running a business while holding down a full-time job isn’t just possible—it can actually be a strategic move. Having a steady income provides a safety net, allowing you to take calculated risks and reinvest in your business without the constant pressure to turn a profit immediately. The key is to streamline operations and delegate tasks whenever possible, freeing up your time to focus on growth and strategic planning. It’s not about working harder; it’s about working smarter, finding systems and support that keep your business moving forward without burning yourself out.

For those venturing into real estate or managing multiple properties, effective financial management becomes even more critical. Real estate businesses often involve complex expenses, from property taxes and maintenance costs to investment income tracking. This is where expert tax guidance can make all the difference. Tax planning isn’t just about filing returns; it’s about optimizing deductions, minimizing liabilities, and ensuring compliance with changing regulations. A trusted partner like DMR Consulting Group can help real estate entrepreneurs navigate these complexities, offering tailored tax strategies that align with their business goals.

Having a handle on your taxes not only keeps your business in good standing but also opens up opportunities for strategic financial planning. Whether you’re reinvesting rental income into new properties, planning for future expansions, or simply trying to maintain cash flow, understanding your tax position is crucial. With the right guidance, you can leverage tax strategies to maximize profits and keep more of what you earn—allowing you to continue growing your business without sacrificing financial stability.

I was Skyping with a small business coach and she was asking me some question about what it’s like to balance a full time day job and our business. She was asking questions that really made me think about what it was to do both. For some time, I was very upset that I still had to work a full time job. I was frustrated, I cried, and I felt as if I was the only one that wasn’t living “the dream” of being an entrepreneur. I thought that being successful in my business meant I had to exclusively pursue my business and that if I had a day job I was a “failure”. This of course, wasn’t true, at. all.

I realized that because I had my full time job (which has the BEST schedule ever) we are able to build our business from the ground up. We are able to have quality clients and not have take the “low budget brides” to make ends meet. Having my day job allows both of us to truly take our time loving and serving our clients and enjoying our business and all the benefits it has to offer. It’s the same kind of joy as seeing perfectly arranged display shelves for your shop floor — everything in its place and working beautifully. I had that “lightbulb” moment realizing that I am truly blessed to have my day job and blessed to have our business and push it forward.

So if you’re sitting there at your desk, wishing you were somewhere else, wishing you were only working on your “dream job”… stop it! Yea I said it, STOP IT! Appreciate what you have, appreciate the fact that you even have a job, and appreciate that you don’t have to take “any paying job” just because you need the money. Take a moment and think about all the things you can do because your full time job supports your business and remember that there’s no rush to building a business!

I’m a teacher too and just because I’m marinating the thought of starting a side thing with photography I’ve never once wanted to leave my kiddos. I love being a kindergarten teacher. I can totally relate. Thank you for posting this.
