Failure is Necessary

Failure. It’s an ugly word. I’m sure you cringed at the title of this post and wondered what is going on. Failure is a word no one wants to hear, and even less admit to it. It is a word that many people frown upon and run away from in horror. But failure is the one thing that can make us better. It pushes us to change and evolve. No one wants to fail, or be considered a failure in one area or another, but failure is necessary. Yes, I said it. We need to fail in order to get up again and become better.

Now, you may be wondering why I’m talking so much about failure. If you have been following our blog for a while, you know I am a teacher. As a teacher, a huge part of my job is to help students perform well on the major tests. I am judged as a teacher, based on my student’s scores, and whether we agree or not, that’s the reality. I recently received a set of scores that were not what I thought they would be. I cried for a while and thought about what I could have or should have done better. After I composed myself, I really reflected and thought about my “failure”. There’s that nasty word again. But it was the truth and it was something I had to face.

I realized that seeing those scores made me want to work harder, push more and become better. I thought about it the entire weekend and it dawned on me that this was true in every area of life. When we get down and fail, most people will do whatever it takes to become better. This principle of getting back up, is what drives us and pushes us forward in life.

If you find yourself at the brink of “failure” today, embrace it and know that it will make you better. But you have to push and get up, you have to be resilient. Failure will subside and success is just around the corner. God is behind you and He will always back you up in times of need.

Happy Wednesday friends!
