One of our goals last year and throughout this year was to read more books. We haven’t exactly read as many as we’d hoped we would, but we sure as heck tried! We’ve seen that many other successful photographers read tons of books, whether for pleasure or for business. Unfortunately, I have a bad habit of starting books and not getting all the way through. I pick it up and then life kind of gets in the way and I forget about it. I really hope I’m not the only one this happens to! Well I picked up this book by Dale Carnegie and I absolutely loved it! This is not a novel, it’s a sort of informational book on how to be kind and win people over. Whether you have a business or not, we as humans are social beings and are constantly surrounded by others. No matter what profession you are in, you have to win people over and work nicely with others. This book had the most wonderful tips and advice on how to interact with others and the principles of human relations.

Carnegie starts off the book writing the why behind it and then gives tips and suggestions on how to get most out of the book. He divides the book into four parts: “Fundamental Techniques in Handling People, Six Ways to Make People Like You, How to Win People to Your Way of Thinking, and “Be a Leader: How to Change People Without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment.” This book gives so much insight on different ways we can be better people. Less criticism, more sincere praise and appreciation, being a good listener, being genuine and smiling are just some things discussed in this book.

After reading this book, our outlook on how we relate to others has changed. There are so many things brought to light and it really makes you think about how you interact to others. If you do not want to change and think everything in your life is perfect, then don’t read this book. But if you want to be a better boss, employee or even person, then pick up this book, read it and apply it to your life! You will not regret it!
