A few weeks ago we wrote a post about Kristy’s favorite lens and gave a few reasons why.  In that blog post I shared which lens is my favorite and why I love it so much. But today we are sharing our must-have lens, which also happens to be Vic’s favorite!

While we love all of our lenses, because we really do, there’s one that is our must-have, our can’t-leave-home-without-it lens, it’s our 50 mm lens. There’s just something so wonderful about this lens and the versatility it has. You can shoot almost anything with a 50 and it’s the lens we recommend to everyone when they ask us what lens to purchase first. The 50 mm is not as tight as the 85, but still has a gorgeous creaminess and softness to it. It’s our go-to girl and Vic’s favorite! For Detroit photography sessions we actually only take the 50mm, 85mm, and the 28 mm for extra wide shots. Vic will start the session with the 50mm and stays with it on his camera body for almost the entire session, swapping with me to get the 85 mm once in a while.

The one thing we love about the 50 mm is its versatility. It can give a creamy look and have an gorgeous bokeh (which is the softness and blur behind the subject), but it also is wonderful for those wider shots. Whatever you photograph just pops right out of the background. It’s our go-to, must-have, can’t-leave-home-without-it lens!
